This is a great CIDG patrol cap with a long neck flap that was worn by Montagnard (mountain minority) soldiers and others who participated in the CIDG program. The fabric is Okinawan Tiger pattern, but it is a thin twill fabric, one of the thin fabric tiger stripes that were commonly seen around 1969-1970s. This fabric has been used in certain Hollywood movies, etc. The bright yellow-green color with yellow ground dye is distinctive. Overall, the fabric has some fading due to sunburn, but it is not worn and is almost unworn. Judging from the stitching, it is most likely locally made in Vietnam, not Okinawa. Early CIDG hats had a more complex shape, but this one is more like a utility cap. There is a difference in the color of the neck flap and the hat itself, but both were originally made of the same fabric. The tiger stripe is quite rare, so don't miss it.
