This is a CWU-45P flight jacket, estimated to have been worn around 1988-90 by a soldier in USS HANCOCK CVA 19 VP-69. All patches and other items are in the same condition as they were at that time. VP-69 refers to the P-8A Poseidon anti-submarine / maritime patrol aircraft squadron. It appears to have been worn by soldiers engaged in anti-submarine missions.

The CWU-45P is a jacket developed as a successor to the MA-1, also known as the MA-2. In fact, it began to be worn around the 1970s, but the name CWU-45P was given to it only in the latter half of that decade. The CWU-36P, made famous in the movie Top Gun, is the successor to the L2-B and G-1 leather jackets, which were intended for use by fighter pilots and others at low altitudes. It has been adopted by all branches of the U.S. military, primarily for use by soldiers engaged in medium to high-altitude missions, and is still in use today with continuing improvements. The U.S. Navy has looser regulations on patches than the Air Force and Marine Corps, and many flight jackets are still available with colorful patches that coordinate with their military service and affiliation history, in addition to their affiliation patches. The back pleats have already been discontinued and are no longer present since this is a 1980's lot. The patches are all individually procured, so the quality and the way they are sewn on vary, but they have not been repaired and are in the same condition as they were at the time.

The jacket has no stains, and the lining has some signs of wear, but it is still in a beautiful condition that you can enjoy. The jacket is in X-Large size, which is the largest size available, so it is a great jacket for those who like to go bigger or are looking for a larger size.
