Based on a jungle fatigue jacket from the Vietnam War era, this exceptionally atmospheric piece features custom detailing inspired by U.S. Navy river patrol uniforms. Sizes range from SMALL to REGULAR.
The base is a 4th Model Jungle Fatigue Jacket from the 1969 contract. The inner label bears the markings “COAT, MAN’S, COTTON W/R RIP-STOP POPLIN, OG 107, CLASS 1,” DSA 100-69-C-1361, and the contractor “BONHAM MFG. CO., INC.” The size is SMALL-REGULAR, Stock No. 8405-935-4705.
Featuring the 100% cotton ripstop fabric emblematic of the 4th Model, along with four large pockets arranged diagonally, this is a superbly crafted field jacket representative of the U.S. military during the latter stages of the Vietnam War.
This jacket has been custom-modified into a short-sleeved version, featuring a “MILLER” name tape and a “U.S. NAVY” tape on the chest. Additionally, a highly eye-catching “RIVER PATROL BOAT 518” patch is attached to the shoulder.
The U.S. Navy’s riverine operations during the Vietnam War were emblematic of the so-called “Brown Water Navy.”In river and canal regions, including the Mekong Delta, the U.S. Navy’s River Patrol Force operated small craft such as PBRs (Patrol Boats, River) to conduct patrols, inspect vessels, and secure transport routes. These missions, set against the backdrop of jungle rivers, reveal a different facet of the Vietnam War distinct from that of ground forces.
For this reason, the combination of “U.S. NAVY × Jungle Fatigue × River Patrol” is exceptionally striking. Furthermore, the custom short-sleeve design perfectly aligns with the image of the River Patrol operating in tropical regions.
However, it is important to note that we have determined the patches and tapes on this item to be aftermarket additions. This is not being sold as an actual, in-service “PBR 518” uniform; please enjoy it as a later-era River Patrol-style customization based on an authentic 1969 Jungle Fatigue uniform.
The jacket itself shows signs of fading, wear, and a well-worn look, and the OG-107 fabric has shifted from the uniform green of a brand-new item to a soft, vintage-like hue.The color fading, particularly around the pockets and along the seams, is a distinctive characteristic unique to well-worn authentic pieces. Combined with the short-sleeved silhouette, this jacket has a presence entirely different from that of a standard 4th Model.
This piece is based on an authentic 4th Model from 1969, finished with the powerful motif of the U.S. Navy’s riverine warfare in Vietnam. While it should be clearly distinguished from original patched examples, it is a fascinating custom piece rooted in historical context—a jungle fatigue jacket that looks absolutely stunning worn on its own during the summer.
It shows signs of fading, wear, and a well-worn look. It has been customized to short sleeves, and the patches and tapes were added later. Please understand the nature of vintage and customized items and check the condition in the photos.
As this is a used item, returns are not accepted. Thank you for your understanding.
