Today, we’re featuring a 3rd Model jungle jacket believed to date from around 1966–1967.

Noteworthy features include the short-sleeve modification—presumably made by a soldier at the time—and the altered silhouette at the waist.

This piece is particularly appealing for its unique finish, which clearly sets it apart from standard jungle jackets.

The jungle fatigues were combat uniforms developed in the early 1960s for tropical regions to cope with the hot and humid conditions of the Vietnam War.

Replacing the traditional heavy cotton uniforms, it utilized lightweight, highly breathable fabric. It evolved into equipment designed for practical use in tropical regions, featuring four large pockets positioned on the chest and waist, as well as a design that prioritized ease of movement.

This item is a 3rd Model from that evolutionary process.

It is characterized by a simpler, more functional design that omits epaulets and waist adjustment tabs.

The fabric is not ripstop—which features a grid-like weave—but rather plain-woven cotton poplin, the same material used in the early jungle fatigues.

The light, airy feel of the fabric—unique to this era—and the soft texture developed over time are particularly appealing.

And what catches the eye most of all is the customization to short sleeves.

During the Vietnam War, soldiers did not simply wear the uniforms they were issued as-is; they made various modifications to suit their missions, the climate, and their personal preferences.

Particularly in the U.S. Air Force, where relatively free dress was permitted in some situations, examples of Jungle Fatigues altered into short-sleeved versions can be found.

This item is also one that could have been used by the USAF (U.S. Air Force).

However, since no unit patches or other identifying markings remain, the assumption that it was used by the Air Force is based on speculation.

What’s even more interesting is the size adjustment made to the waist.

While the jacket originally featured a relatively loose, straight silhouette, this one has been altered to cinch the waist.

As a result, it has a cleaner silhouette that hugs the body more closely than a standard jungle jacket.

The combination of the custom short sleeves and the cinched waist gives it the light, airy feel of a military shirt, while still firmly retaining the four-pocket design characteristic of jungle fatigues.

This exquisite balance is truly remarkable.

The size is SMALL REGULAR.

This is one of the most popular sizes among vintage jungle fatigues, and because the waist has been adjusted, you can enjoy a unique fit that differs from standard jackets of the same size.

The plain appearance—without any patches on the front—further enhances the beauty of the customized silhouette.

Altering military-issued clothing to fit your body and suit your needs.

This kind of personal customization is one of the key elements that makes vintage military gear so fascinating.

This is more than just an old military uniform—it’s a piece that conveys the practical ingenuity and individuality of the soldiers of that era.

We highly recommend this piece to anyone looking for a jungle fatigues jacket that’s a cut above the standard 3rd Model.

This is a vintage, pre-owned item.

As seen in the photos, there is overall fading, a worn texture from use, and some light staining in places.

This is a custom piece that has been altered to short sleeves and has had the waist adjusted.

Please note that returns are not accepted for used items.
